Panasonic has created three new 8.1 mega-pixel digital cameras for its Lumix lineup. These cameras, the DMC-FZ18, FX33 and FX55, include a variety of technologies to make taking pictures easier. One of which is the Intelligent Auto Mode which choses the appropriate of lighting needed for picture taking. Another feature of note is the new auto-focus mode, which, without assistance from the user, is able to automatically focus on what ever it is pointed to. And even more impressive than those other features is the cameras ability to recognize faces and track them.
The most notable feature however is the 18X zoom on the the DMC-FZ18. This is the largest zoom available on any current consumer digital camera. Panasonic says that the zoom capability can be further extended to 28.7 X using the Extra Optical Zoom mode. These cameras will be available in Japan in August. The prices of these digital cameras were not given. No word yet on a US availability.
UPDATE: All of these cameras will be available in the US in September. The DMC-FZ18 will be priced at $399. The FX33 will be priced at $299.95 and FX55 will be priced at $349.95.
