Porsche has unveiled a preproduction version of its Cayenne gas-electric hybrid SUV. The hybrid engine has increased gas mileage by 20 percent. This allows it to deliver 24.4 mpg highway versus the 17.9 mpg of the standard V-6 equipped Cayenne. The hybrid has a six speed automatic transmission and in performance tests it is almost half a second faster from 0 to 60 mph than the standard Cayenne.
It has a towing capacity of 7000 lbs and if you have the inclination, it can be taken off-road. In fact, it may even be driven in water that is up to 20 inches deep. The Cayenne hybrid SUV is expected to go into production in two years. The hybrid engine technology used in the Cayenne was developed with Audi and VW and will likely be used in vehicles from these manufactures as well.
