Hitachi will soon be bringing to the market the first camcorders to use Blu-Ray disc technology to record video. The camcorders, the DZ-BD70 and the DZ-BD7H, can record video onto Blu-Ray discs because of their built-in Blu-Ray writers. Both camcorders can store up to 7.5 gigabytes of data on a 8cm Blu-Ray disc or one hour of video at a resolution of 1920 x 1080i or four hours at a resolution of 1440 x 1080i.
The DZ-BD7H also has a built-in 30 gigabyte hard drive. The additional storage capacity of the DZ-BD7H allows it to store up to four hours of video at its highest resolution or eight hours at 1440 x 1080i. Both camcorders have a 5.3 megapixel sensor which allows for a resolution of 2.07 megapixels for video and 4.32 megapixels for still images. Also included on both these models is a 10x zoom and a 2.7 LCD screen. The DZ-BD70 weighs 570g and the DZ-BD7H weighs 630g.
The DZ-BD70 is priced at 160,000 Yen (approximately $1,343.95) and the DZ-BD7H priced at 190,000 Yen (approximately $1,595.64). These two camcorders will be on sale in Japan on August 30 and in October they will be sold overseas.
