Fujitsu has developed a biometric device that uses a person’s palm to identify them. When connected to a computer this device, called the “PalmSecure”, scans the the vein pattern underneath an individual’s palm and then searches for a match within a database. If a match is found the individual may then gain access to the computer system. This device appears to work in a similar manner to the system developed by Hitachi.

To bring this device to the market Fujitsu has teamed with Siemens to make use of their “ID Center”. The ID Center is a software solution that allows the biometric data for a network to be stored and administered. The addition of this software allows for the PalmSecure to be more easily integrated into environments such as government offices, research labs, and banks.
