Cyberdyne has created a exoskeleton called HAL (hybrid assistive limb) which has sensors that attach to the wearer’s skin and can anticipate which muscles you want to move, allowing it to move the appropriate parts of the suit at the same time. This allows the user to move around easily in the 50 pound exoskeleton. Furthermore, HAL can boost the wearer’s strength from 2 to 10 times and operates from 3 to 5 hours before needing a recharge.
Cyberdyne is building a new facility that will be able to produce from 400 to 500 suits a year by the end of 2008. This amount will increase to tens of thousands a year in the future. As a result of this Cyberdyne will be renting its HAL exoskeleton’s for $1000 a month to overseas users. This fee includes a upgrades and maintenance costs.
$1000. That’s not bad. But what I really want to know is how much to buy one of these bad boys?
