Samsung continues to show itself a pioneer in LCD panel technology.
It has created a new LCD technology called “Blue Phase”.
Blue Phase mode will allow images to be displayed at 240 Hertz or higher, allowing for even more realistic moving images then what is currently available from current LCDs which display images at 120 Hertz.
The Blue Phase panels do not require the overdrive circuits needed in current LCD panels. The new panels are also cheaper to produce because they do not require liquid crystal alignment layers like today’s standard LCDs.
This new technology is called “Blue Phase”because of the bluish hues seen while in operating mode.
Samsung will unveil a 15” model at the SID (Society for Information Display) 2008 symposium and they expect to mass produce the Blue Phase LCD in 2011.

Sagawa Advance, a Japanese technology company, has developed a biometric identification system which is superior to those currently available.
It uses a infrared scanner which compares 40,000 data points of a person’s face to those of faces in its database.
The technology can be used to secure access to various institutions including medical, government and financial buildings.
It is so precise that it can tell identical twins apart. Sagawa Advance will sell the scanner and database set later this year at a price of 6,000,000 yen ($60,000 US) and expects to sell 40 sets during its first year of sales.
