At the 2008 FPD International tech conference in Japan, Samsung displayed what may very well be the first cellphone with a folding OLED screen. Curved and bendable screens have been displayed before at various electronics shows but this cell phone is the first to display a screen with such flexibility.
During its presentation the cell phone went from a completely flat position (displaying a large screen) to a closed position (displaying a small screen), similar to current clamshell cell phones.
Such screen technology could have a great effect on consumer electronics. Besides cellphones it could be used to allow greater screen sizes in mp3 players, portable hand held video game systems and possibly ultra-light notebook computers.
The cell phone Samsung displayed was very likely a design study/concept and consequently Samsung did not release a date of availability or price.
