I saw the film District 9 yesterday.

It is a very very good film.

It has a story that effectively draws the viewer into world in which characters of District 9 exist. The acting is great and you’ll become emotionally invested in these characters.  The special effects are excellent, particularly praise worthy is the cgi. The cgi is photo-realistic and blends seamlessly into the rest of the film. And note that the aliens are all cgi.  The action scenes are intense and move the story along.

The main character, Wikus Van De Merwe,  is portrayed by Sharlto Copley. He gives a very effective performance which is all the more amazing when you consider that this is his first film role.

The film’s director is 29 year-old Neill Blomkamp. This is his directorial debut. District 9 was created on a budget of only $30 million, and the film looks like it cost at least $100 million.

Overall it is far superior to most of this year’s sci-fi-related films,  some costing many times more.

Mr. Blomkamp has quite a future a head of him.

I can’t wait to buy this on Blu-Ray.
