Avatar is now the biggest grossing film of all time (without adjusting for inflation) having made $2,111,717,421. The box office totals are as follows, domestically it is currently at $612,693,000, and in foreign markets it is currently at $1,499,024,421.
Phenomenal in this day and age for a film that is not a sequel, not a remake, not based on a comic-book, and not based on a television show.
The whole concept of the film, having 10-foot tall blue aliens with feline features, could have very well resulted in box office failure. It took a great director to make it work And he hit it out of the ballpark, and as far as I’m concerned, James Cameron no longer has anything to prove.
Hopefully studio execs are taking note and open their eyes to the fact that quality, creativity and originality still fill theater seats.
